Dr. Judy Hauswirth
Judith Hauswirth has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon 1969 and a B.S. in Chemistry, University of California, Davis, California 1965. She also received a NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pharmacology at Yale University Medical School, New Haven, Connecticut and a National Cancer Institute Career Development Award and research grant. She is currently working for her own consulting firm, where she provides expert consultation to private clients on toxicology issues related to toxicity testing, risk assessment, and hazard evaluation. She also provides regulatory advice, serves as an expert in data compensation cases, evaluates laboratory toxicology reports, and assists in designing atypical toxicology studies and monitors toxicology studies of all types. She as served as an expert on GRAS self-affirmation panels for food additive and animal food additives and has made presentation to the EPA Human Science Review Board and the Scientific Advisory Panel. She has over 38 years of experience in toxicology, biochemistry, and drug metabolism including basic research and regulatory toxicology. At Jellinek, Schwartz and Connolly, a consulting firm, she became the Vice President of Toxicology and Chemistry. Prior to her consulting career, she was a branch chief at the Environmental Protection Agency in the Office of Pesticide Program, Health Effects Division and acted as Director of the Division of Drugs and Environmental Toxicology at the Food and Drug Administration, Center for Veterinary Medicine and as Section Leader in the Bureau of Foods. She has done basic research on the role of nutrition in the metabolism of carcinogens and the metabolism of hydrazine compounds. She has published in journals such as Cancer Research, Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics and Environmental Mutagens.

He has conducted occupational and environmental risk assessments on many different types of substance, ranging from pesticides to metals and solvents, including recently focusing on the susceptibility of young children for lead, and has led teams producing a large number of Criteria Documents used for the setting of Occupational Exposure Limits, both in the UK and the EU. Len has published more than 250 papers on occupational carcinogenesis, occupational and environmental toxicology, risk assessment and risk management and the regulatory aspects of both environmental and occupational air standards. In 2000, he was awarded an OBE for Services to Health and Safety.
